Ayurveda is a holistic system of healing, which originated in India over 5,000 years ago. The term ‘Ayurveda'(the science of life) comes from the Sanskrit words ‘Ayur’ (life) and ‘Veda’ (knowledge or science). It emphasises balance in the body, mind, and spirit.
Maharshi Charaka, an ancient Indian physician and scholar, is known as the ‘Father of Ayurveda’. In his book, ‘Charaka Samhita’, he provided and mentioned about 340 plant types & 200 animal types, and a comprehensive guide to the principles, practices, & philosophies of Ayurvedic Medicine.
Maharshi Sushruta, an ancient Indian physician, is called ‘Father of Plastic Surgery’. The book, ‘Sushruta Samhita’ (the first and foremost authentic text of Ayurveda) was written by him to elaborate surgical techniques. It was written in the holy city of Kashi around 1000 BC.
